Philip
O. Anderson, Pharm. D.
UCSD, has received the first private gift to support the new UCSD
School of Pharmacy from Philip O. Anderson, Pharm. D. The gift
will be used to establish a current use fund to assist with the
construction and equipping of the Drug Informatics Laboratory,
the operations of the Drug Informatics Laboratory and the building
for the new School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Anderson
is the Director of the Drug Information Service at UCSD Healthcare.
He has been with the Department of Pharmacy for 26 years. Dr.
Anderson was born and raised in Watsonville, California and is
a graduate of the UCSF School of Pharmacy.
When asked
why he chose to make a gift to UCSD, Dr. Anderson replied, "Pharmacy
has been good to me. The new UCSD School of Pharmacy presents
a once in a lifetime opportunity to help shape a brand new school
that is destined for excellence in educating future practitioners
and leaders in the profession."
Support from
the state of California, once provided most of the University's
budget. However, today, the University relies more than ever on
private support to maintain its excellence. Priorities essential
for the new School of Pharmacy include: endowment and operating
funds, building funds, financial aid for students, faculty, research
and programmatic support, the campus environment, and unrestricted
funds.
Dr. Anderson's
generous gift and other gifts such as his will make the New UCSD
School of Pharmacy a reality. UCSD Health Sciences is forever
grateful to Dr. Anderson for his commitment and generous support.
