The Chancellor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars, annually hosted by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, brings students, faculty, staff, alumni and UCSD friends in the community together for an afternoon of fun and fresh air, all to benefit undergraduate scholarships at UCSD. The 5K Run/Walk starts at 12:15 p.m. on the North Campus Field near RIMAC, follows the campus cross-country course, and finishes back at the North Campus Field with lunch and an awards program.
Established in 1996 by the Chancellor at that time -- UC President Robert C. Dynes -- the Chancellor's Challenge is now in its 12th year and has raised more than $1.7 million for 650 undergraduate students at UCSD. It has grown to include more than 1,500 registered participants and volunteers.
New this year is the Chancellor’s Champion competition. Students, Faculty, Alumni and Staff will each select their runner designee. The winner will become this year’s Chancellor’s Champion and will receive a roaming award to be displayed at a campus location appropriate to his/her campus affiliation. AND there will be a $500 award to benefit the group represented by the top runner!
Chancellor Fox's personal challenge this year is to Students. She will personally match each $10 student registration fee. The first 500 students to register will have their contribution doubled to this year’s scholarship fundraising!
Don't forget that sponsors and donors are not left out of the Chancellor's Challenge! For every $50,000 raised, Chancellor Marye Anne Fox will add $5,000 and will match new or increased gifts with discretionary funds up to $40,000. So let's be sure to rise to the challenge this year! |
